La Reserva Club, ready to host the Aramco Team Series

The Aramco Team Series is the first team event series of its kind on any professional tour. Taking place across three continents, the tournaments will see the world’s best players team up with amateur golfers to compete for a $1m prize fund

La Reserva Club, Spain, has begun the 100-day countdown to welcoming the Ladies European Tour (LET) for the return of the innovative Aramco Team Series Sotogrande, on 18-20 August 2022.

Using a unique draft system, team captains will pick one pro teammate, before being allocated a third via a random draw. Completing each team will be one amateur golfer. As well as competing for the team trophy, the professionals will also vie for an individual title, offering Rolex Rankings and Solheim Cup ranking points, and will be part of the Race to Costa del Sol Official Rankings.

La Reserva Club is, for the second year, one of the destinations where the Aramco Team Series will be held. The Aramco Team Series is golf’s first team event series on any professional tour – with visits to London, Sotogrande, New York and Jeddah following its opening Asian leg. Thus, La Reserva Club will become the perfect destination for golf fans who want to enjoy a unique and fun-filled weekend at one of the best golf clubs in Sotogrande.

The Aramco Team Series is the first ever series of team events on the tour, looking to excite golf fans around the world, with a new format and on-course activities. Including Spaniard Carlota Ciganda. The 31-year-old returns with a recent taste of victory on the southern Spanish coast after winning the 2021 Andalucía Open de España.

Overlooking a glittering Mediterranean coastline, the 2021 event was especially memorable for Alison Lee, from the U.S., who claimed her first professional victory in the individual element of the tournament and will return in 2022. She said: “I have proven I can play well at La Reserva Club, and I am determined to do so again.

Combining a fourball and individual prize, the event’s unique team format sees professionals drafted into teams of three combining with an amateur. With a $1m prize purse up for grabs, the pressure is on all members of the team as the winning amateur from the 2021 Aramco Team Series – Sotogrande, Ignacio Morillo from Spain, testified: “I cannot describe how hard it is to play for money that is not for you. It is not a normal situation for an amateur.”

Also teeing up in the Aramco Team Series – Sotogrande 2022 are 2021 AIG Women’s Open champion Anna Nordqvist, young Australian sensation Stephanie Kyriacou, plus British golf legends Dame Laura Davies and Catriona Matthews.
