Real Club de Golf Las Brisas has been a living history of Spanish golf since the 1960s, when the arrival of greater numbers of tourists led to the opening of the first golf clubs on the Costa del Sol. Founded in 1968 by José Banús, it was designed by Robert Trent Jones, who by then was already considered one of the best course designers in the world.

In 2018 Real Club de Golf Las Brisas celebrated 50 years – in a better condition than ever following the refurbishment of all the holes and a 2.8-million-euro investment. Kyle Phillips, president of Kyle Phillips Golf Course Design, headed up the remodelling of the course; a renowned designer with more than 30 years’ experience in European course layouts, whose unique, personal touch can be appreciated in each of his completed works.

Over summer 2022, the club has once again undertaken significant improvements on the course this time by GolfDesign, a global golf course design firm established by Jorge Santana da Silva. With his unique style, Jorge Santana da Silva, strongly influenced by his experience with Robert Trent Jones, author of the original design of Las Brisas, Cabell Robinson, and Bill Boswell. GolfDesign has developed projects in Europe, Africa and South America and has developed a philosophy to make his projects maintain a natural landscape, taking advantage of original elements and protecting environmental values.

The short-game area has been completely renovated, with one of the greens on this sown with cool season Bentgrass, while the other three have been planted with TifEagle bermuda, a more resistant variety for the local climate and to divots. In addition, the green collars, bunkers and lakes on the first nine has been renovated and the driving range has also been extended with a green retention wall, and new safety nets have been installed.

Throughout its history, Real Club de Golf Las Brisas has hosted major events such as The King and Queens’ International Cup, the Spanish Open, the Nations’ Cup and the World Cup. Although in recent times there have been no major events, 2023 is going to be a very exciting year, both for the club as it will be hosting the Spanish Women’s Open, and for Costa del Sol golf in general as the coast will welcome the Solheim Cup from 18 to 24 September. It is set to be one of the most memorable Opens in the history of this prestigious tournament and one of the highlights of the Tour season.
