Choosing your next golfing destination in Spain can be a daunting task, given the sheer number and quality of courses on offer. Spain is a country with huge variety and each of its regions is a destination in itself.

If golf is your favourite sport, the Region of Murcia has a truly extraordinary offer of 20 golf courses for any level of play within a radius of 35 kilometres on the Costa Cálida, the so-called Warm Coast. And its coastline could not be more aptly named, with more than 300 days of sunshine a year and an average temperature of 19ºC.

What’s more, in 2021 the Region of Murcia is the Spanish Capital of Gastronomy, an annual award that recognises the city or region most committed to promoting local cuisine as a visitor attraction.

Playing golf while discovering the uniqueness of the destination through its food and drink is what makes the Region of Murcia so appealing. The chance to play on any of the 20 golf courses, with holes for all levels and within a radius of 35 kilometres on the Costa Cálida, is a reality 365 days a year.

The privileged golfing climate is just the beginning of the journey. Nature, historical and cultural heritage and the local cuisine, hallmarks of the destination, have earned it the Capital of Gastronomy title for 2021. This coveted annual award recognises the city or Spanish region most committed to promoting its local produce and traditional dishes as a visitor attraction.

Its 1,001 flavours cannot but help holidaymakers expand their gastronomic vocabulary with delicacies such as ‘marinera’, ‘pulpo al horno’, ‘zarangollo’ or ‘arroz caldero’. And to top it all off with dessert, a ‘paparajote’ accompanied by a brandy-laden ‘café asiático’.

Wine also has an identity all of its own in this region. Its wines from the high plateaus known as the Reino (Kingdom) of Monastrell are fortified and recognised for their good quality, going perfectly with the culinary specialties of the Region of Murcia. Moreover, its three denominations of origin, Bullas, Jumilla and Yecla, have a wine route certified by the Spanish Association of Wine Towns. This means that you can also go on wine tastings, visit wineries, walk through vineyards or take part in many other activities and become a true wine aficionado.

In short, a visit to the Region of Murcia is something any golfer should include in their plans.
